The CBSE Board has adopted the Learning Outcomes (LOs)* developed by NCERT and the theme of the Capacity Building Programs for the year 2020 which is Competency-Based Education (CBE)*. As notified through the CBSE Circular No. Acad-05/2019 dated 18.01.2019.
*Competency-Based Education (CBE) is an outcome-based approach to schooling, where attainment of goals takes priority.
**Learning Outcomes (LOs) are defined in terms of competencies and capacities, which students acquire and demonstrate at the end of the instructional program.
Additionally to this, the CBSE Board is intensifying the Competency-Based Education (CBE). By starting the corresponding changes in the Exams and the practices of assessment for the academic year 2020-21 onward. However, the overall marks and duration of the examination for both the year-end school, examination as well as the CBSE Board Exams, will remain the same. Whereas, change in the composition of assessment tasks would help CBSE achieve the desired results.

For the Academic Session 2020-21, the CBSE curriculum document is scheduled to be released in March 2020. It will put forward the respective changes for the individual subjects to be considered in the year-end school exams as well as the CBSE Board Examinations.
